Halloween
October 31st, 2008For weeks Lilly told us that she was going to be a black cat, same as last year. Then a week before Halloween, she announced that she really wanted to be a witch and she hadn’t wanted to be a black cat at all. Turns out it was peer pressure — Riley and Sonja were both going to be witches so suddenly the whole game changed. We found a costume on sale at Target (not that I’m complaining, but why make everything 30% off the week BEFORE?). Maeve waffled on her ladybug costume. We were pushing it since it was an old one of Lilly’s. Once we told her she could have antennas though, she was all in.
We carved our pumpkins Thursday night and the girls did a lot more of the work themselves though they were a bit squeamish about getting their hands in the pumpkin guts. We used paper templates and Lilly did pretty well, but after Maeve spent 20 minutes on one of her cat’s ears, I had to step in and move things along.
Friday night we went over to the Roberts to visit our neighbors Penny and Maggie (as is the yearly tradition). Then while Lisa stayed to visit, we trick-or-treated our way around the lake and then back to collect Momma. The girls were clearly hopped up on sugar but exhaustion kicked in unexpectedly and they zonked as soon as their heads hit their pillows.
