Maeve and Lilly

Christmas 2008

December 25th, 2008

Christmas Dresses Christmas eve… ah the anticipation. We went out for breakfast at the Pancake Cafe as is our tradition. Later in the afternoon we made the traditional Christmas eve rice pudding and ate it for dinner. Lisa turned up her nose at it, but the girls and I regretted and lamented not doubling the recipe. After assembling a snack plate (cookies for Santa, carrots for the reindeer, and cheese for Santa mouse), the girls were sent upstairs with strict warnings about coming back down and interrupting Santa and thereby spooking him off without leaving presents. Lilly was a good sport — though she did over do it a bit with the “maybe Santa’ll bring me so and so.” wink wink.

The girls slept in later than we expected. We actually weren’t awoken until 7:30. While we puttered around making coffee and a fire, feeding the dog and getting the Christmas Kringle out, we allowed the girls down one stair at a time every few minutes. The familiar rush into the living room resulted in the same awe-struck “Santa came!”

Stockings were ripped into: Maeve got two cases of Scotch tape and Lilly got a winter cap. Santa brought both girls new American Girl doll: Jess for Lilly and a blond-haired, blue-eyed Just Like You doll for Maeve. Lilly practically spasmed with joy as she tore into a Nintendo DS. After that, the Lisa’s very slightly used iPod Nano wasn’t such a big deal. (We dutifully handed down Lilly’s 256Mb mp3 player, previously mine as well, to Maeve. Both girls immediately instructed me to get Miley Cyrus songs on their devices post haste.

We spent the rest of the day in front of the fire and had our traditional homemade Christmas pizza for dinner. Glorious. Photo documentation is also available.
